GS.Sir Herbert Maxwell

Tag: Flat gold tinsel, claret silk.
Tail: Gold phesant crest and a Chatterer.
Butt: Chenille (I use black herl).
Body: In two sections, the first: Silver tinsel ribbed oval silver, butted IC above and below and black herl. Front part: Light blue silk ribbed silver tinsel with a light blue cock hackle along.
Throat: Pintail.
Wing: Swan (or Turkey) dyed black and yellow, Barnyard drake (I use unbarred Wooduck) and a topping.
Sides: Jungle cock.
Cheeks: Chatterer.
Head: Black.

This fly from the end of the 1800's was dressed in quite large sizes; it had a great reputation on Cumberland Eden where it was the absolute favourite fly for many fishers. There is another Bulldog as well, quite similar to this one, the different are oval silver tinsel instead of gold in the tag, no tail, Toucan instead of IC as veiling, Summer duck (which I have use) or Teal instead of the Barnyard drake, Gallina as front hackle, Jungle cock as cheeks instead of sides and no Chatterer.
